Van Gogh Bicycle Path
The opening of the cycle path on 12 November will mark the start of the Van Gogh 2015 international theme year. The new Van Gogh-Roosegaarde bicycle path is made of thousands glowing stones inspired by ‘Starry Night’.
The path charges at daytime and glows at night. Here innovation and cultural heritage are combined in the city of Nuenen NL, the place where Van Gogh lived in 1883. This is the second concept of Smart Highway, the interactive and sustainable roads of today.
Designer Daan Roosegaarde and Heijmans Infrastructure develop roads that are sustainable and smart by using new technologies and designs. Together with the artist Daan Roosegaarde, Heijmans developed special innovative technology with which the path will be illuminated by thousands of twinkling stones. This will create a play on light and poetry. Roosegaarde: ‘I wanted to create a place that people will experience in a special way, the technical combined with experience, that’s what techno-poetry means to me’.
